This silver rupee was issued under the name of Shah Alam II and was struck in AH1208 (Year 17/35) at the Benares mint under the Bengal Presidency of the East India Company. The obverse shows a full date of AH1208, interesting die polish marks and also the characteristic fish and radiant sun privy marks. The reverse is a little flatly struck at the top and shows a flower privy and the double regnal years 17 and 35. We can see the barest hint of wear on this coin and thus grade the coin as almost uncirculated (AU). One of the better AR Rupees we've seen, this silver proclamation rupee would be a fine part of any Australian colonial coin collection.
