The silver coinage of 1922 is very tough to find in well struck up mint state. The dies of the year were typically very worn and rusted and coins struck from them exhibit a 'dished' appearance and are usually poorly struck. This example is better than most showing steely grey lustre on both sides. The obverse is struck strongly from rusted dies with the full band, pearls, and centre diamond clearly visible. The reverse shows exceptional fields with some small bag marks around the CE of SIXPENCE. The emu exhibits the usual flatness in the feathers that are indicative of a weak strike. However, the strength of strike in the emu and shield is actually better than a lot of examples from 1922. The reverse strike and a small rim bump at 1 o'clock on the reverse probably limit the grade to PCGS MS62, but this is a lovely example of the type and hard to find better.
