Welcome Summer 2011 and our submissions have been returned from PCGS in time for the festive period. As expected the New Zealand coins graded well, we expected this as Royal Mint coins often grade higher than local Aussie made coins. There's keen interest from collectors for us to continue slabbing some decimal issues so some lovely examples have returned in high grade with the red designation. Also slabbing well were some ever popular QEII proofs from 1963. We are in the process of listing up more pre-decimals so keep an eye on the newly listed category.
On a personal note we sent back for a second time some Aussie Perth copper from our own collections which had previously been rejected as "questionable colour", PCGS hasn't always recognised some of the stunning colours possible on Perth pre-decimal copper. These returned slabbed MS64RB so we're pretty happy that PCGS have come around recognising this.

We've sent over a new submission to PCGS for grading to beat the Christmas rush. Our pre 1956 submission will take some time however with a current turnaround time of 57 business days. This will bring us well over Christmas for their return. The modern 1956+ coins will be back sooner just in time for the holiday period. It includes some lovely QEII proofs so keep an eye out for those. We're also dabbling in a little New Zealand coinage, the designs are so pretty and we hope for some high grades there.
We've also had some fantastic feedback on the mini albums. Thank you to everyone who has left us positive comments.

Kathryn and Mark from The Purple Penny will be attending the ANDA Coin and Banknote Show in Adelaide next weekend. We'll be working with Gerry McGinley from 'At The Toss Of A Coin'. If any of our readers or customers want to stop in at Gerry's table and say a friendly hello then we'd love to see you there.

We've been busy over the last 6 months designing and manufacturing a new mini coin album. From idea to finished product we've endured many teething problems and manufacturing issues but we're pleased to announce that we've had a production run made and they are now available .

23 August 2011
You might have noticed things on The Purple Penny website have been a little quiet lately for new high quality PCGS graded coin stock. This is because PCGS are experiencing a high workload and the turnaround time for our coins has blown out for some submissions to over double what the usual time is.
Easily viewed on the PCGS Statistics page the grading times for regular submissions which is usually 15 business days has blown out over double at 33 business days and economy submissions at a target of 20 business days are coming in at 42 business days. Add a week each way for shipping and an extra week for PCGS to recognise our submission after delivery then you can see the turnaround for coins to be graded by PCGS can blow out to over 3 months! So be patient with us, new stock will be arriving soon.
On the other side of things accessory sales are doing well as collectors are realising the true value of ridding their collections of pvc storage accessories and housing their coins in our quality archival polypropylene alternatives.
We weren't able to attend the recent Sydney ANDA show but we'll be at Adelaide ANDA in full force in October.

All the new coins have arrived back from PCGS and have been listed up. There's too many for the newly listed category so take a browse through our entire site for the most recent additions. Feel free to drop us an email or "enquire about product" if you'd like to make an offer on one of our coins. Our pick at the moment is the 1933 half penny MS65BN or the beautiful 1964y half penny in MS65RB. Also keep an eye out for more world coins listed up, particularly New Zealand coins like this 1943 New Zealand threepence in MS65.

New Coins
We've just received in a large order back from PCGS all in the new pronged holders. We're busily listing them all up, at first without images then adding images over the coming days. If you have an interest in a particular coin then please drop us an email and we'll be happy to add images to those coins for you asap. See the Newly Listed category for this new stock. Overall we're really happy at the quality and grades of this submission with all coins achieving the expected grades or higher.

PCGS MS62 $1/10c Mule Available Soon
You may or may not know that up until now PCGS has not recognised the 2000 $1/10c mule and and would only slab them as errors. They now acknowledge that these coins are a legitimate Australian issue and as a result quite a few 2000 $1/10c mules have now been graded. An uncirculated example slabbed by PCGS as MS62 will become available on our website shortly at $6,000. It's quite rare to find a mint state example of this key Australian decimal variety. If you are interested in purchasing this coin or want to be notified when images of it are available then please drop us an email.

New Coins -a preview
We’ve just received some grades on our latest batch of coins sent to PCGS and thought we’d give our regulars first option in securing these coins. We’ll have some more coins and grades to share with you in the next few days. These coins are not expected back in Australia for another 10-14 days, so if you’d like to purchase one of the coins please let us know and we’ll put a hold on it for you with a small deposit required. As you can see a lot of our coins don't even make it to be listed up for sale on the website before they are snapped up by collectors with an eye for the best.

September 2010
Things have been a little quiet lately and I'll put that down to the cold of Winter but now we've turned the corner into Spring a cheery disposition is warranted. We've recently sent over 4 submissions to PCGS with some returned already, some grades in and some still pending. We get notification of the grading about 10 days before the coins actually arrive back to us, thus some coins already sell to our regular customers before the coins are even back into the country and they never even make it to be listed on the website. Top population coins and high grades particularly sell quite quickly. Amongst the grades we've been notified of already are a 1951PL 1/2d MS65RD, 1947 & 1948 3d MS65, 1951PL 3d MS66, 1952 3d MS65, 1952 & 1958 2s MS64, 1948m & 1950m & 1951PL 1d MS64RB.
