There’s a lot going on when you look closely at this coin. It’s been struck almost completely out of collar with just the bare hint of the collar (edge reeding) seen in the pictures. There is significant fishtailing of the lettering indicating the coin wasn’t constrained by the collar when it was struck. These fishtailed letters can also be seen quite clearly in the microscope pictures. We can also see some doubling of the lettering which, in the case of this coin is strike doubling. This doubling is also apparent on the base of the 2 and the claws next to the SD. The edge exhibits a small edge gouge which is coincidently next to the spot where the collar began to engage so this is either a product of the strike or perhaps was put there by a mint worker removing the stuck coin from the press. Put aside by an astute collector before this coin saw circulation, this 20 cent grades Gem Uncirculated.
